Before any work begins, it helps to be clear about a few simple points. This keeps things fair, transparent, and stress-free for everyone.
1. About the Problem
Technology issues often have more than one cause. I’ll work carefully to identify the root of the problem, but some faults (especially intermittent or long-standing ones) may only become visible during or after work begins.
If a device already has existing issues, I rely on you to let me know about them in advance.
2. Working With Existing Systems
I work with equipment, software, and setups as I find them. Older devices, prior repairs, or previous changes made by others can sometimes limit what’s possible or affect reliability.
I’ll always explain any risks or limitations before making changes.
3. Data and Backups
While I take care at all times, no work on computers or devices is completely risk-free.
You are responsible for ensuring important data is backed up before work begins. If you’re unsure how to do this, I can help — just ask before we start.
4. Time and Costs
Work is charged based on the time spent helping you.
I’ll explain likely costs in advance and let you know if something is not cost-effective to fix. There’s no obligation to continue if you’d rather stop.
5. Changes and Extra Requests
If additional issues come up or you ask for extra work (“while you’re here…”), we’ll agree this before proceeding so there are no surprises.
6. What I Can’t Guarantee
Technology can be unpredictable. While I work carefully and professionally, I can’t guarantee that:
- Existing faults won’t reappear
- Hardware won’t fail in the future
- Software updates won’t introduce new issues outside my control
If something isn’t worth fixing, I’ll say so honestly.
7. Respectful Working
I provide calm, respectful support and expect the same in return. Abusive or hostile behaviour won’t be tolerated, and I reserve the right to end a session if necessary.
8. Questions
If anything here isn’t clear, please ask. I’m always happy to explain things before we begin.
This checklist isn’t about blame or fine print — it’s about clarity, trust, and working together properly.
